Candle Care

Candle Care Guide

To enjoy your Ember & Whisper Scents candle fully, a little care goes a long way. These simple tips will help ensure a clean, even burn and the best fragrance experience.

The First Burn Matters

When lighting your candle for the first time, allow it to burn for 2–3 hours, or until the wax melts evenly across the entire surface.
This helps establish a proper burn memory and prevents tunneling in future uses.

Trim Your Wick

Before each burn, trim the wick to ¼ inch (about 6 mm).
This helps to:

  • Reduce soot and smoke

  • Maintain a clean, even flame

  • Extend the life of your candle

  • Support an even fragrance throw

Burn Time Guidelines

  • Minimum: Burn for at least 1–2 hours to prevent tunneling

  • Maximum: Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time

Always allow the candle to cool completely before relighting.

Safety First

For safe use, please remember to:

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended

  • Keep candles away from drafts, vents, and air currents

  • Place on a stable, heat-resistant surface

  • Keep out of reach of children and pets

  • Keep away from flammable materials

  • Stop using the candle when ½ inch of wax remains

Optimal Burning Conditions

For the best experience:

  • Burn in a well-ventilated room

  • Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings or debris

  • Gently re-center the wick after extinguishing, while the wax is still soft

  • Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight

Extinguishing Your Candle

Use a candle snuffer or gently blow out the flame.
Avoid using the lid to extinguish the candle, as this can cause excess smoke and affect the fragrance.

Cleaning & Reusing Your Vessel

Once your candle has finished burning, the glass jar can be reused:

  1. Place the jar in the freezer for a few hours

  2. The remaining wax will harden and release easily

  3. Wash the jar with warm, soapy water

  4. Repurpose it as storage, a planter, or a decorative piece

Troubleshooting

Tunneling
If tunneling occurs, try the foil method: wrap aluminum foil loosely around the top of the jar, leaving a small opening. Burn until the wax melts evenly across the surface.

Weak scent
Make sure the candle is burned in an appropriately sized room and that the first burn created a full melt pool.

Soot or smoke
Trim the wick shorter and ensure the candle is not placed in a drafty area.
